On a hilltop that overlooks the ocean with “a view to die for,” as one headstone proclaims, is a lovely place to rest your bones. If you haven’t already visited the Taft Pioneer Cemetery, you have the perfect opportunity to do so this fall when actors from Theater West will bring to life six historical figures from Lincoln City’s past. On the weekends leading up to Halloween, the cemetery will be the site for a tour among the headstones of some its colorful and interesting “permanent residents.”

Guests will go on a lantern-lit, night-time walking tour of the cemetery where they will meet three men and three women at their graves. These historical figures will recount their life and times. Neils Anderson will tell you about how he came to be the first person buried in the cemetery after a bizarre accident on Siletz Bay. Mattie Olson will recount the terrible flood of 1921 with the hilarity that only she could muster under such harrowing circumstances. The stories they tell will thrill and entertain you while giving you a greater awareness and appreciation of the Taft Pioneer Cemetery and the history of Lincoln City

The tour will begin at the Lincoln City Cultural Center with cookies and hot chocolate. Guests will then board a bus where they’ll hear Native American stories and legends on route to the cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will take place at the museum.
