Annual Community Picnic
September 17, 2016 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
Free[twocol_one]
The North Lincoln County Historical Museum cordially invites you to attend our annual Community Picnic on Saturday, September 17 th at Wapiti Park. Formerly called the Pioneer Picnic, this annual event was first instituted by the North Lincoln Pioneer Association in the early 1900s and it is carried on by the museum today in memory of those early pioneers.
The first picnics were held on the 4 th of July along Siletz Bay to celebrate each year as a growing community. Pioneer families came from all over the north part of Lincoln County, often traveling by foot, carrying everything they might need for an overnight stay. Some early entrepreneurs made treats to sell, like ice cream or corn on the cob. The picnics included campfires, crabbing, games and sports. In the evenings there was sure to be fire works and sing a-longs.
Today, the picnic draws people from all over the state who want to meet up with old friends or share memories. The picnic is open to museum members as well as their friends, relatives and anyone they would like to invite.
There’ll be a raffle for door prizes, a silent auction and a cakewalk. It’s a potluck picnic, so bring your favorite hot dish, salad or dessert, enough for 8 to 10 people, and your own plate and place setting. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.
